Students in grades 3-6 participate in an 80-minute daily literacy block. Within this block of time, students experience quality instruction based on the three literacy components: Reader's Workshop, Writer's Workshop, and Word Study. Each of these components contribute to a well balanced literacy framework.
Students are instructed at different levels based on their ability to decode and comprehend text. Each child is assessed individually to determine what level of instruction he/she should receive. Based on this instructional level, children receive books that are appropriate for their needs and are given time to independently read material that is both interesting and developmentally appropriate for their skill level. |
