multi-sensoryA research based program used in addition to guided reading to build and reinforce foundational reading skills. This program is mainly used at the Kindergarten level. Mrs. Kim Salmen uses the Orton-Gillingham Multi-Sensory model to build and maintain young readers' literacy skills through the use of various senses to cover the essential components of reading.

reading recoveryAn intense one-on-one program offered for the most at-risk first grade students. Ms. Erin Young implements the lessons with struggling first graders to establish a functioning strategic processing system for young readers. The lessons include letter/sound relationships, phonics, spelling patterns, reading familiar and new books, writing stories and problem solving.

leveled literacy interventionSmall group reading instruction used to compliment the guided reading model used in the classroom. Mrs. Sue Rickard and Mrs. Christina Henceroth meet with small groups to reinforce reading skills taught at the guided reading table within the classroom. The lessons are very structured and include phonics, vocabulary development, reading for understanding and fluency, as well as word work.
